ALL IN THE DETAILS: High-Waisted Blues

The best ways to stay cool in the warmer temperatures are to grab your favorite pair of sunglasses, rock a loose fitting top and bring out the shorts you’ve been dying to wear since snow landed in your front yard this past winter.

My favorite style is high-waisted. Since they emerged in fashion for women in the ’40s, the evolution of the trend has been through a variety lengths and styles. Yves Saint Laurent’s spring 2015 show showcased a mass of the throwback style with pants, skirts and shorts, perfect for warmer weather.

This Fashionista channels the collection with ’70s-inspired pieces. Her embroidered peasant top is loose enough to have the right amount of fabric for a tucked in and polished look into her high-waisted shorts. She pairs the outfit with tennis shoes plus a graphic tote, and both are ideal for a long day.

I’m all about saving money, so the best way to get fab high-waisted items is thrift shopping! I go to Goodwill with crafting on my mind. I make my own shorts by following plenty of YouTube gurus and Pinterest posts. Both outlets make techniques, such as cutting and distressing easy to follow.

How To: What’s the use of wearing high-waisted items if you can’t tell that they are? The best way to rock the trend is to wear a shirt you can tuck in or with a cute crop top. If it gets chilly at night, add a light sweater or kimono to keep you warm. Any shoe will look great with the boho bottoms.
