I’ve never been much of a “back to basics” kind of gal when it comes to my style. With so many bold fashion choices out there, I find it hard to stick to a little black dress or the classic blue jeans and white tank top duo. Though some Fashionistas can totally rock those kind of simple looks, I always go for the more statement making ones, like patterned pants, bright colors, flashy accessories and graphic T-shirts like the one this Fashionista chose.
Hearing the phrase “graphic T-shirt” may conjure up a bunch of different thoughts. The middle school days of wearing Hollister Co. shirts that obnoxiously plastered the brand on the front or old pictures of your parents wearing AC/DC shirts at a concert might come up. Those cheesy shirts with somewhat raunchy sayings on them that are sold at beachy tourist-trap stores. The truth is that there’s not one specific mold that graphic T-shirts follow, and that’s what is so great about them. Though graphic shirt trends have evolved over the years, their underlying purpose remains the same—to make a statement.
Brandy Melville is known for its chic graphic shirts that make a statement without being too in-your-face. If you want the world to know you’re a Mean Girls fan, check out a tank top that showcases one of the movie’s notable quotes. Feeling patriotic? Wear something like a cropped T-shirt that features an American flag with alien heads instead of stars.
If Brandy Melville is slightly out of your price range, cheaper stores like Forever 21 have plenty of options in the world of graphic shirts. This shirt will be sure to successfully ward off any creepers by warning them that you already have a boyfriend. If you want to show your love for one of the Golden State’s most popular cities, check out this shirt, which looks as if it were designed by Brandy Melville but is sold for half the price.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to deciding what to wear with a graphic T-shirt. My personal go-to is a classic ’90s-inspired look that features one of my rock band T-shirts (usually Led Zeppelin). Throw on a flannel shirt, ripped jeans, a beanie and Converse or combat boots, and you’ve taken yourself from zero to grungy-chic in no time. This Fashionista chose a pair of jogger pants and white Converse to make for a girly, casual look. Graphic T-shirts aren’t just reserved for casual affairs. Put on some high-waisted shorts, a cut-off band shirt, high-heeled booties, red lipstick and a gold cuff, and you’ve got yourself a killer, head turning outfit to rock when the sun goes down.
How To: Out with the LBDs and in with the graphic T-shirts! Rather than buying yet another basic shirt to clog your closet, go for a bolder choice and pick something that will turn some heads. Look for shirts that will allow you to sit back and let the shirt do all the talkin’.
