ALL IN THE DETAILS: Dress the Coat

Happy Monday, Fashionistas/os! The snow has not stopped, and neither have our thoughts of summer. In the meantime, there is still a fashion crisis. How do I make the same coat I wear every day look different?

It is expected to only have several coats—many of them being for fashion purposes. It is understandable to wear your warmest coat daily because I mean, look at what we’re dealing with on the East Coast this season! But the issue is that we tend to stop at that. We are not dressing up our coats.

This is your prime time to accessorize, especially since there are so many ways to accessorize between scarves, hats, gloves, sunglasses, bags, socks and even shoes. As if these aren’t enough options in and of themselves, think about how many subdivisions there are following each accessory type. For example one can chose from a plethora of hat types including beanies, fedoras, bucket hats and baseball caps.

Headbands are currently the latest accessory trends. One can pick from the options of for warmth or strictly fashion. Most Fashionistas have been spotted wearing knit headbands or fur-trimmed bands for warmth. A classic, but casual, style is a thick head wrap which usually come in solid colors and is worn over the ears. This look solves any bad hair day a girl has ever had. They can even be worn with a bun and still pull the look together without looking sporty.

How To: Use your options and expand your horizons. Don’t settle for not wearing a scarf if the cold lets up; try wearing a fashion scarf and a hat to stand out while walking to class. A pair of sunglasses has the power to dress up any outfit, so make sure to get the right pair for winter. It is not too late!
