Denim skirts were my obsession when I was just a young tween Fashionista. After junior high, this trend practically disappeared after being the coolest denim trend for what felt like forever. Every Fashionista had a denim skirt to perfectly match with their platform Steve Madden sneakers in the ’90s. In the early 2000s in California, it was all about the distressed denim skirts to go with your Abercrombie & Fitch polo with the popped collar. It seems like everything comes full circle in the fashion world though, and so has the denim skirt.
Our Fashionista here is wearing the denim skirt in all it’s ’90s grungy glory. The high-waisted cut she is wearing is my personal favorite that I have seen around lately, but the styles do not stop there. Almost every favorite online Fashionista store, such as ASOS and NASTY GAL, is slowly reintroducing multiple cuts and styles. Another popular cut this season is the curve-hugging pencil skirt like this one from rag & bone. From the runway to campus, this trend has made a full comeback from the early 2000s. It has quickly become a summer must-have for every Fashionista’s closet. It’s perfect for those scorching hot days but also can easily be incorporated in your Fall wardrobe just by adding any pair of tights underneath.
How To: Since it is denim, this trend can be worn with virtually anything your little stylish heart desires. The denim skirt is a great alternative for those jeans and T-shirt summer days. Wear it with sandals, sneakers, boots or whatever you can think of. You can dress it up with a pair of minimalist heeled sandals or keep it casual with a pair of canvas sneakers. For something trendier, tuck in a silk camisole and pair it with a pair of fun loafers. It is so versatile and a great key item to keep in your closet.
