ALL IN THE DETAILS: Coat With The Fur

It may be spring, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t still get our days of cold drizzle and bitter wind, especially in the morning. What better to protect yourself from the elements than with a bit of faux fur?

Fur looks elegant and adds a luxurious element to any outfit, and faux fur ensures that animals aren’t harmed in the process of looking chic. However, you must walk a fine line when wearing fur—you don’t want to look like you are wearing an entire animal. This week’s Fashionista used just a bit of faux fur to keep warm and add a classic feel to her otherwise simple outfit.

Fur is a statement, so it is best to keep the rest of the outfit fairly basic. This Fashionista began with a base of a pair of skinny jeans and a white tank top. Then, she added a maroon coat that tied at the waist. The coat featured a faux fur lapel, which, combined with the rich color of the jacket, looked elegant. A pair of brown boots played off the brown in the fur, and some gold necklaces and rings brought out the warmth of those browns.

How To: Try to add a small amount of fur to a simple outfit. Like this Fashionista, try fur on a jacket to add extra warmth and to replace a scarf. Or, channel Flo Rida’s taste in women and try boots with fur. To add fur to any outfit, try a fur scarf or stole that can be added to any dress, shirt or jacket. For winter months, go for a brown or black fur, and for warmer months, try a white or light gray.
