ALL IN THE DETAILS: Can I Wear Sneakers with This?

Remember in the olden days when beloved Disney Channel actresses and punk divas like Avril Lavigne and Demi Lovato would walk the red carpet in the infamous dress and sneaker combo? I do, too. And so does this Fashionista. However, this Fashionista took a modern spin on things that had me running to my closet.

This Fashionista chose to rock a black lace dress that came with a long side slit. This dress reminds me of the black gothic style gowns within the Alexander McQueen fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Many would reserve such a dress for a date night or a night out with the girls, but this Fashionista effortlessly turns this dress into a daytime look by completing it with a pair of sneakers, vintage accessories and long tousled hair. To keep this look from looking to gothic, she painted her nails a baby pink color and kept everything else colorful. The adidas-style gym sneakers give off a ’90s vibe that gives this look more of an urban feel.

The sneakers really do make this look wearable as a day-to-day look, yet gives it such originality you could rarely find elsewhere. In a season where everyone is obsessed with the same old wooden wedges and gladiator sandals, it’s nice to see that someone took a risk and paired sneakers with such a feminine dress.

Another thing to make note of is this Fashionista’s hair. The ombré hair effect from black to light brown is not only a popular trend this summer that could easily translate into the fall season but keeps this outfit from reaching over into the gothic side (unless that’s your thing, then by all means reach on).

How To: Pair your favorite feminine looking dress with a pair of casual sneakers. Wear accessories as needed that you feel most express yourself. Keep your ensemble simple.
