That’s right. Our favorite elementary school staple is back again as a chic, versatile accessory. Backpacks in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials are making a comeback, and I’m not complaining in the least. With their array of styles and colors, as well as the sheer amount of stuff you can fit inside even the smaller models, I’m thinking that the chic backpack trend will be here for a good while.
The Fashionista pictured here has paired a flirty, fun-colored top with basic denim and a rocking pair of heels with a camel-colored leather drawstring backpack. The look is casual enough to wear to a lecture, yet put together enough to easily transform to a night on the town. The main focus here, though, is the backpack slung over her shoulder in the most chic, carefree way. The backpack can be worn with one or two straps over a single shoulder for a more effortless look, as well as with a strap over each shoulder for a more comfortable feel. It can also be carried by the top handle, as the Fashionista is shown doing, for a classier look and to show off the bag to everyone you pass (and let’s be honest, if there’s an accessory to show off, this is it).
How To: There are a million different ways to put together a look complemented by a chic, bold backpack. For a more casual, boho feel, throw on a cotton shift dress or a floaty maxi with a pair of leather sandals and you and your bag are good to go. For a more sleek, polished feel, a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a graphic T-shirt and a pair of booties should do the trick.
