It is officially winter and the winter chill is definitely in the air. The first thought on our minds as college students during the cold weather months is staying warm while walking back and forth on campus. This is when accessorizing becomes important. Accessorizing during this season usually consist of a classic hat, gloves or even a scarf to help combat those harsh winter chills. These accessories can easily become frumpy. Scarves have literally become a large component not only on the runway but in streetwear, also.

Blanket scarves are much grander than the average scarf and have become a rather huge trend this past fall; it does not look like that will be changing through out the winter months. When wanting to keep warm is a major factor, blanket scarves will certainly keep you covered in that department and will be a great layering piece.

This Fashionista is a great example of how to perfectly layer a blanket scarf and not only keep warm but also look fashionable while doing so. She keeps her outfit simple by sticking to a monochromatic palette with an all-black themed outfit (other than the little gold detail on her boots and coat). Not only does this scarf make a statement due to its grand size, but also because of the charming plaid pattern. There are countless types of blanket scarves ranging in style, color and lengths that should be explored and experimented with.

How To: Want to take part of this huge trend, but weary of how to begin? Try the simple route like this Fashionista did. Choose simpler layering pieces when it comes to the other components of your outfit. Play around with the colors, patterns, lengths and use the scarf as the statement piece.
