As the school year at DePaul University nears the end, many Fashionistas and Fashionistos on campus are winding down the year with all sorts of formal events on campus, from formals to semi-formals to banquets. With the weather rapidly warming up in Chicago, I’ve seen a variety of styles emerge on campus, including everything from sundresses to midi dresses to rompers. Finding the right dress can be relatively simple—the real challenge is finding the right accessories and shoes to complete the look.
This Fashionista was heading to a banquet when I stopped her to snap a picture of her look. I was immediately drawn to this outfit because of the lovely shoes that this Fashionista added to an already killer outfit! She starts off with a black and gold lace dress that accentuates her waist and shows off her legs—just in time for this warm weather! To accessorize, she is sporting her staple gold watch, necklace and a pair of black and gold earrings that perfectly accentuate the colors in her dress. The jewelry that this Fashionista paired with her dress works really well because it does not overshadow the dress; rather, it highlights the gold accents in her dress. Plus, the accessories show off the most important piece of this outfit: the shoes! These maroon, suede Mary Janes match the dark color palette of this dress without being too matchy, making them the ideal complement for this outfit.
How To: Don’t be afraid to get a wild pair of suede heels! Get them in your favorite color, pair them with a dress in neutral hues and add some killer accessories. There should always be some balance between your clothes and your accessories, so there isn’t just one piece overpowering the entire ensemble!
