ALL IN THE DETAILS: Bananas for Bandanas

What does Tupac Shakur, John Wayne and Rosie the Riveter all have in common? They all rocked killer bandanas! Doesn’t everyone own a one? After seeing Christian Aguilera looking totally awesome in a bandana in the ’90s, I started wearing one. In the years since then, I have sported the bandana top knot or even just tied one on a handbag. The signature paisley print is well-known all over the world and they are so versatile that they can be used with almost any style. Whether it be for utilitarian or fashion purposes, this power accessory has stood the test of time.

This Fashionisto is showing us how to wear a bandana the modern way. Tying a bandana around your neck is a super quick, super chic way to step up your outfit. It’s a great way to skip some jewelry and still look put together.  This Fashionisto actually told me he planned his outfit around his bandana necktie. He paired his classic red printed bandana with a black T-shirt with white skinny stripes. I thought this gave the Fashionisto a nice French touch, Oui? He then layered up with a sweatshirt and denim vest combo with lots of fun and personal pins. Some featured sassy sayings from Harry Potter and Bettie Page. Then to brave the frigid weather conditions of Morgantown, West Virginia, the Fashionisto wore Dr. Martens lace-up boots. The boots feature a floral print on the flap, adding another RAD print to this Fashionisto’s look.

How To: Don’t think the bandana necktie is right for you? That’s okay, they are meant to be changed up! Roll your bandana into a tighter flat ribbon and make it a choker! Wear a closer knot and put it to the side for a more ’50s pin-up look! The ideas are endless!
