ALL IN THE DETAILS: Army Pants Sans Flip Flops

We all know who dictates fashion: the less-hot version of Regina George. You know the quote: “One time I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip flops, so I bought army pants and flip flops.” And while I’m not personally a fan of all-things camo, Mean Girls converted me to the idea of camo pants. On their own, camo pants are just another pair of pants; with the right touches, however, they can stand out in a crowd.

This Fashionista has opted for some cute Topshop ankle boots in place of the flip flops worn by Cady. What makes these boots stand out is the detail of the cutout along with the crisscross straps. The gold clasp adds another unique detail, different from the typical buckle.

Moving up the outfit, the gold from the shoes ties in with the gold studs on the camo pant pockets. The studs aren’t the more common square shape or flat circle, but are more like wide cones. This detail is subtle, but it gives these camo pants that extra something that takes this outfit to another level.

Then, keeping with the idea of repeating elements in the outfit, this Fashionista puts on a black top to repeat the color of her shoes, which creates a nice visual pattern in her outfit: black, gold, camo, gold and black. Then, to break up this pattern just a little, she threw on a denim jacket—which is something that is always in style.

The details in this outfit have created a visually tied-together outfit that at first glance is pretty standard. But it’s the little things that make the difference.
