As followers of fashion, we all like to be as on-trend as possible. For me, that has most recently meant channeling my extremely minimal side. Spring and summer 2014 collections from brands like Band of Outsiders and J.Crew made it easy for me to leave the house in just a T-shirt, jeans and super simple sandals and proudly declare, “It took me a whole two minutes to choose an outfit this morning, and I’m trendy.” However, I’ve noticed that my minimalistic tendencies have been, as of late, leading me to eschew my once beloved necklaces (which, ask anyone, I have an impressive collection of). Once I spotted this Fashionista, I realized that mixing subtle necklaces into a classic look makes all the difference when abiding by the rules of minimalism.
This Fashionista’s black and white ensemble worn with the perfect pair of black ballet flats allowed for her to channel an adorable, effortless French vibe. She accessorized with a gold bracelet and ring, but what really caught my eye was the simple gold chain around her neck. I really loved that the necklace wasn’t overly showy, but still gave the look that extra bit of shimmer and oomph. When it comes to my necklace collection, the abundance of oversized pearls and bedazzled, feather necklaces proves that I definitely had a flair for the dramatic back when I bought them. This Fashionista reminded me that a necklace can be classy and simple, and it can still add dimension to an outfit. What’s more is that the gold necklace can be worn with virtually anything. Whether it be a striped shirt and black pants, a floral dress with feminine flats or just a sweater and jeans, this necklace can be worked in seamlessly and without the slightest hesitation (the same can definitely not be said for my aforementioned bedazzled feather necklace).
If you’re going shopping for accessories soon, consider stocking up on some necklaces that you’re sure to get lots of mileage out of. Baublebar carries a similar one to this Fashionista’s for those of you with a love of gold links. Forever 21 and H&M also have subtle gold necklaces that will undoubtedly allow your outfit to give off just the right amount of shimmer and shine.
The minimalism trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon—or at least that’s what my lazy self is hoping—so why not shake things up by topping off your ensemble with a polished necklace? Even when it comes to the most minimal of looks, a little bit of shimmer and shine is sure to go a long way.
How To: Struggling to create new outfits with your favorite pieces of clothing lately? A simple necklace can truly fix that. This tiny (but important) detail will instantly brighten up the outfits you’re dying to repeat without taking them over the top.
