ALL IN THE DETAILS: A Pop of Color, or Two

It seems like when summer finally hits full force, it is both dictated by fashion trends and inherently embedded in our desire to strip away the neutrals and venture out into the realm of bold colors. There is no time better than under the scorching weather to rock some bright neons. While I love my neon yellow shorts and my colorful crop tops, sometimes the overwhelmingly large quantity of neutral items gets the best of me. Even though the plus 25 degree weather is all we wish for during the freezing days here in Montreal, sometimes I miss the monochromatic days a little. I’ve finally come to terms with the truth in “the grass is always greener on the other side” when I saw this Fashionista. The black and white combination is always going to be a staple, regardless of the season, and we don’t have to go all out in rainbow gear to embrace a touch of summer in our look.

Sporting this gorgeous halter-neck shift dress, our Fashionista enthusiastically told me that it was from Zara when I complimented how it looked on her. While the silhouette of the dress was relaxed and casual (perfect for a outdoor brunch buffet, might I add), the sleek pattern upgraded it to a slightly dressier option than a plain T-shirt dress. What really inspired me about her look was the playful accents of color that she incorporated. The two different blues of her Ray-Bans and her sandals played off of each other and added personality. She also decided to keep the accessories to a minimum, sporting only a gold watch, which further contrasted the blues.

How To: Whether you are getting tired of the super bold colors and want to tone it down, or you are just starting to experiment with bright colors in your looks, adding a pop of it in an otherwise monochromatic look is a great, fool-proof strategy. Start with a neutral piece like a neutral romper and add fun, colorful accessories like a statement necklace, a belt or some funky shoes.
