WHAT TO WEAR: Errands

What to Wear

It’s so easy to throw on sweats, grab your bag and head out to the store to pick up a few things for the week—but what if you, like, see someone you know? They can’t see you disheveled and sloppy like that! You are a Fashionista, after all.

I feel as though we’ve entered an era that makes it almost a sin to leave the house/dorm looking unpresentable. Us, anxious and overthinking girls, always run through the different scenarios of what could happen during that three-block trek to the Whole Foods and those usually include meeting the man of your dreams or seeing your arch enemy and punching her in the face. Ladies, I know you do it and I also know you want to look good if those events were to take place. Whether it’s a trip to the grocery store or a ride over to Georgetown to shop around, a cute outfit for errands is clearly essential.

You don’t need to go all out, save those outfits for night events or class when you’re definitely going to see people you know, but a flirty, simple look is perfect for a quick outing. Leggings or jeans are a great foundation and since we’re approaching warmer weather I can introduce the boyfriend jeans. These are slouchy and comfortable jeans, ideal for errands and other casual events. My favorite boyfriend’s are from Gap, specifically the 1969 Sexy Destructed Boyfriend jean. The light wash is great for simple, daywear style. I’m also a huge leggings person. They’re comfortable, flexible and easy. This Fashionista wears her black leggings tucked into an adorable, must-have pair of over-the-knee leather boots. I recommend a pair of Stuart Weitzman’s 5050 Black Nappa over-the-knee boot. They’re long-lasting, perfect for fall and winter seasons, and totally chic.

This Fashionista is also sporting a mint green leather jacket to add a pop of color to her trendy look. She puts this over a graphic top, a very popular statement for this season. Graphic T-shirts are great to put under fashionable jackets, cardigans or even wear on their own with a pair of skinnies. Urban Outfitters carries some awesome graphics to fit a variety of looks. Mont La Roc Mineralized Surreal Muscle Tee is one of my personal favorites!

What honestly made this Fashionista stick out to me the most was her flat-rimmed snapback. These type of hats are normally worn by guys. But, this Fashionista had the confidence and sass to strut around the District in her blue and red cap, making up her own personal look. Whether it’s a hat, a head wrap or a piece of statement jewelry, always add something in to make the look your own and set yourself apart from everyone else! Additionally, the hat adds a very casual feel to this look, making it a perfect outfit to run errands in.

When going to the food store or mall, it’s always important to be comfortable. That may be why we are so quick to grab our comfiest sweats and go. While running store to store you don’t want to be limping around in your highest heels or making sure your dress doesn’t fly up, you want to be focused on the task at hand! Wearing a simple and easy outfit to run errands is essential and you can do it and still look chic and trendy!

One Simple Change: To make this look more spring-friendly, the graphic tee can be paired with distressed, high-wasted shorts and a pair of combats. I love the hat because it adds some individuality, color and a departure from the original look! The mint leather coat is adorable, too, but if it’s too warm, put on a long, light sweater, such as Free People’s Ribbed Up Maxi Cardi.
