STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Winter Neon

Style Advice of the Week

Neon was one of this spring’s hottest trends, spotted everywhere from high fashion runway shows including Peter Som and Rodarte to the streets of VCU. However, with the rich, muted tones taking over this fall, it’s easy to forget about the electric hues we loved earlier this year.

After I spotted this week’s Fashionista, I knew it was time to reintroduce this color trend to my fall/winter wardrobe. She mastered the art of layering by rocking a printed scarf and chambray shirt over a cozy T-shirt and leggings. She added a cognac colored pair of knee-high boots to add an extra dose of polish to this chic ensemble. Her bold neon pink wallet brought an unexpected pop of color.

Take a cue from this Fashionista and keep donning the neon trend this season. A neon accessory is a great option for those who want to start wearing the trend in a more subtle way. Make a neutral ensemble pop with these bold accessories. This neon clutch from South Moon Under and this skinny neon belt are simple ways to try this trend and is flattering for all skin tones.

For the rest of your ensemble, keep your colors muted so you can focus on your neon accessory. Layer a chambray button-down shirt over your favorite T-shirt, add a black pair of denim or leggings, add your favorite pair of boots and a killer scarf, and you’ve got a casual yet edgy look that will make you stand out for all the right reasons.
