STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tis’ the Season (Already)

Style Advice of the Week

It seems that every year, marketers start the holiday season earlier and earlier. Now we’re seeing red and green festive displays in department stores and ads with the latest holiday essentials before Halloween starts. Fashionista/os, now is the perfect time to get ready for the most wonderful time of the year. While we might not have our loved one’s wishlists yet, there’s no reason why we can’t get a head start on our holiday wardrobe.

If there’s any piece that’s essential for this season, it’s the holiday sweater. I’m not talking about those cheesy, oversized sweaters you might wear to a “Tacky Sweater” themed party either. This week’s Fashionisto rocked a great neutral sweater with a subtle snowflake print. He kept the rest of the look monochromatic by layering a black V-neck T-shirt underneath and donning a pair of khaki chinos, combat boots and a Fossil messenger bag.

Fashionistos, it is possible to look sophisticated and dapper in a holiday sweater. Avoid the stereotypical loud, tacky sweater and opt for something a little more understated. These fair isle sweaters from J.Crew and Urban Outfitters are subtle yet festive. Also, try layering a classic button-down shirt underneath your sweater to give it a small pop of color. Since your sweater will already have a graphic, intricate print, keep the rest of your look neutral. Dress the sweater up with a classic pair of chinos, or dress it down with a pair of jeans in a dark wash with a straight fit.
