STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Harness Your Inner Fashionista

Style Advice of the Week

A real winter? After last year’s consistently above average temperatures and one small dusting of snow, I’m not sure that we here at VCU remember what that even feels like. However, these past few weeks have been pretty bone chilling and now we’re all scrambling to find the warmest clothing around.

One of the most essential cold weather items I look for every year is a great pair of boots. They’ve got to be stylish, versatile and durable for a long season of unpredictable weather. When I spotted this Fashionista rocking a pair of harness boots, I knew I had to get myself a pair as well. Harness boots, an altered version of the motorcycle boot, feature a chic pair of pull-on straps. While these boots were originally designed to protect motorcyclist’s legs from the heat of the exhaust pipes and from injury, the modern day option will make any ensemble look smart and any Fashionista look incredibly pulled together.

This Fashionista invested in a pair of Frye Melissa Button boots, the crème de la crème of harness boots in the country. If you’re not ready for that type of investment on a college budget, the Wonser boot by ALDO and the Marko boot from DV by Dolce Vita are affordable alternatives.

The styling possibilities for a harness boot are endless. They can be easily dressed up or dressed down. To recreate this look, start by selecting a feminine tunic. Then add a pair of leggings or skinny denim, which will look fabulous tucked into your statement boots. Finish off the look by adding a long necklace and you’ve got a great look that goes from day to night with ease.
