FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT: Rob Cortinas

Fashionisto Spotlight

Let's be honest: men's fashion tends to fall to the wayside. With what's in for women changing practically every day, it's easy to forget about the other guys. That's why when I saw this Fashionisto looking much more exciting and put together than his contemporaries, I had to get a picture. Of course, it's not just his outfit that caught my attention.  It's that confidence that any true Fashionisto or Fashionista knows is the best accessory. He's not afraid to rock this season's brightly colored pants, and he urges other guys to do the same.  What they say is true: real men wear pink.

Name: Rob Cortinas

Year: Sophomore

Major: Biomedical Engineering

College Fashionista: Tell me about your outfit!

Rob Cortinas: My polo and pants are from Brooks Brothers and my shoes are Sperry Top-Siders. I'm also wearing a Michael Kors watch.

CF: Is the way you dress important to you? Do you put a lot of thought into what you wear?

RC: Yes and yes. I believe the way you dress says a lot about you, so I make sure to dress to impress everywhere I go.

CF: How would you describe your style?

RC: My friends would call it “obnoxious”, but I'd say it's just preppy and kind of golf-ish.

CF: What's tour favorite clothing item that you own?

RC: My favorite thing would have to be the pink pants I'm wearing in this picture, I get compliments (and some weird looks) whenever I wear them.

CF: What item do you consider a wardrobe staple?

RC: Definitely boat shoes (Sperry Top-Siders, et cetera). I refuse to wear any other shoes when I'm going out.

CF: What's one wardrobe hopeful that you're currently coveting?

RC: Way too many to name, but I'm always on the lookout for bright and colorful pants.

CF: What style advice would you give to other guys?

RC: Well, some of the guys I know don't feel comfortable wearing bright colors, so I think I would like to tell guys to try to get away from all those boring blacks and grays and wear more vibrant clothing.

How To: You heard it, boys.  Don't be afraid to brighten up your wardrobes with crisp, classic shapes and cool colors, like these lemon yellow pants from Brooks Brothers or this shirt from Jack Wills. Start simple, by pairing brighter colors with easy neutrals, like Rob did with his white polo.  Feeling brave? Try a colored shirt and funky pants together in complementary colors, such as purple and yellow or orange and green.
