LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Thrift Shop!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

As the year is slowly coming to an end, so is everyone’s bank accounts. With the end in sight we want to dress to impress, but as students we have to get a little more creative on a budget with our style choices. So as the number one song for the third week in a row on Billboard says, “Hey, Macklemore! Can we go thrift shopping?”

Thrift shopping and vintage clothing are popular trends. Recycling the old seems to be refreshed as the new thing, but the key to pulling off these bargained pieces without looking like a mix and match mess is to add in some higher end staple items to complete the look.

If you are either going to a meeting with your professor, to your internship or meeting the parents, this is the perfect outfit! This Fashionisto put together this semi business casual outfit that has layers, which are especially needed because in the last few months of winter the weather can go either way! He also paired it with these unexpected brown leather boots from Value Village that were, at the time, barely worn and cost him $5! This Fashionisto’s staple item would have to be his Element Khaki pants that really help to make the outfit flow from the blues in the two shirts to the rich reddish brown in the shoes.

Nowadays, you don’t even have to go through an old second hand store to get a good deal! Try shopping online at Kijiji or eBay, there are always good deals on barely or never worn items from stores that you would regularly pay a good price for one piece. Even stores such as Urban Outfitters have online only deals to save you a couple of dollars if second hand shopping is not your thing!

Even Canada’s own rising designer, Philip Sparks, says that one of his favourite things to do that gives him a little inspiration is go to go vintage shopping in Toronto’s great variety of vintage shops! When looking through his fall 2012 collection you can definitely see where the inspiration comes from!

Hint: When shopping in thrift stores you have to treat it like a treasure hunt! If you keep searching you will sooner or later strike gold and find that perfect piece!
