STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dressed for Stormy Weather

Style Advice of the Week

Being one of the few students who decided to remain on campus for Hurricane Sandy, I thought for sure that all faith in fashion was lost for the weekend. As OscarPRGirl tweeted in reference to the rainy weather, “It’s like one big hideous rubber boot convention.” Sometimes I think she narrates my life. The weather should never play as an excuse to dress distastefully, but instead it should act as just another creative drive to pull inspiration from. How do you think they do it in Paris?

It was so refreshing to discover a Fashionisto who wasn’t decked out in a windbreaker, sweatpants and Timberland boots. Instead, he was dressed just as the weather depicted: calm before the storm. I adored the way he spruced up his laid-back look by paying attention to the details. Layering a pinstriped button-down underneath a cozy Lacoste pullover gave his outfit a relaxed vibe with sophisticated roots. By allowing his button-down to play peek-a-boo via rolled sleeves and a double-cuffed collar, this charming Fashionisto skillfully took his look over the bland rainy-day edge.

Hurricane Sandy might have threatened our homes and power lines, but we will not stand for it to threaten our fashion sense. When it comes to dressing with style, it’s always encouraged to look to the weather as your muse. If you like what you see on this week’s Fashionisto, be sure not only to always stock up on water, batteries and non-perishables, but also pinstriped button-downs and pullover sweaters. These are pieces that you will be able to dress up and dress down under any circumstance. Finish off your look with a casual pair of khakis and boat shoes that really bring out the chill-bro in you. If you can’t beat the weather, you might as well make something stylish out of it.

Sending love and prayers to all who were affected by the hurricane.
