When it comes to color, jewel tones are fall 2012’s go-to trend. They’re a timeless alternative to conventional fall neutrals, and serve as a super easy way to add a little bit of edge to any outfit. Jewel tones like ruby, emerald and topaz have been spotted in tons of runway shows and fall fashion issues—but the true test of whether or not something is in style is if you’re able to spot it in your everyday environment. Passing the test with flying (jewel) colors, this week’s Fashionista proved that the Monday drag to class does not have to be so mundane.
I was so excited to see someone flaunting a perfect pair of sapphire toned pants. Creating a lovely balance between understated neturals and a rich blue hue, this Fashionista knew just how to embrace a fresh fall palette. She kept her look simple and effortless by not straying away from an average cozy class outfit, but the addition of sapphire pants made her outfit jump to a whole new level of enticement. (Not to mention her sapphire ombre manicure—OBSESSED.)
If you want to play up your jewel tones on a more daring route, don’t be afraid to pile on complementary, contrasting, and shades of the same hue. Colorblocking different saturated tones and textures will give your look a killer lift, and you’ll undoubtedly become known as the Queen of fall fashion—sapphires, rubies, emeralds and all. Get inspired and check out some amazing jewel toned fall staples, like a jade satchel, a lapis peplum top or amethyst booties. There is no such thing as too many jewels.
