Hey, I’m Adriana Vamvakas, a second year Banking and Finance/Arts student at Monash University in Melbourne. This will be my third season as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista writing on Fridays for ACCESSORIES REPORT.
For me, the fall 2012 runways of Paris and Milan reminded me why I fell in love with the world of fashion. In Paris, Marc Jacobs drove a steam train down the runway at Louis Vuitton. One by one ladies dressed in the finest threads with extravagant embellishments unloaded from the train, complete with their own personal baggage handler. In Milan, Muccia had a model army wearing fine-tailored suits, structured stilettos and extravagant briefcases for Prada. These shows exported everyone into an alternate universe, whether it was the golden age of steam engines or girls ruling the world in avant-garde suits, for half an hour everyone lived in a fantasy.
A designer whose work has truly inspired my own style and my love of fashion is Alexander McQueen. McQueen never failed to create a spectacle at his runway shows, his spring 2010 show, Plato’s Atlantis, was revolutionary, and something that is still talked about today. From the McQueenadillos, to the intricate print garments and the futuristic hair and makeup, no detail was overlooked and everyone to this day still talks about the spectacle that only McQueen could create.
This season I am very excited to be writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT. As any great designer knows, it’s the small details that make an outfit incredible. From jewellery to bags, hats and even socks and scarves, I’m very much looking forward to seeing the fall 2012 runway style translated into street style and what details will make everyone’s outfits truly unique.
