Don't we all just swoon every time we see a gorgeous, flawlessly crafted, oversized handbag? This week's Fashionista was right on the mark. Her light beige pebbled leather oversized purse with gold studs made me stop and stare. She knew exactly how to put her bag on show.
The 101 in making your purse the centrepiece of your outfit is simple. Wear clothing that is understated and contrasts nicely with your bag, as this Fashionista has shown us with her choice of oatmeal sweater and black disco pants. You can even go further to make your purse shine with your choice of accessories. This Fashionista had decided to add an Yves Saint Laurent Arty Oval ring with brown stone and gold hardware. This ring, although a masterpiece in itself, really brings out the gold detailing on the bag and the brown stone also contrasts nicely with the bags colour.
I think, more so than a statement ring or statement necklace, a statement bag can be a real showstopper. Not only are they completely necessary to carry all Fashionista’s important items, they can really take an outfit to the next level. I suggest, if you want to indulge in a statement bag, go for something you love and something timeless. A big trap we can all fall into is buying an “it” bag which is usually in one season and out the next and for those of us who don’t have money to burn definitely look into buying a bag that will be worn and loved for years to come.
If you feel like saving and splurging bags such as the Chanel classic flap bag, the Balenciaga city bag or, as seen on Amy’s post ‘The Bag’, the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag are timeless pieces. However, if you’re to be more realistic with your budget Cambridge satchel company have some incredible stand-out satchels or even Australian designer Vintage Princess has some unique, beautiful bags, as seen on this week's Fashionista.
