I spotted this Fashionista coming out of J.Crew and, let me tell you, she could have been their muse! While there was no trace of “copy-catting,” this Fashionista is the ultimate J.Crew girl, putting her own spin on tailored classics. Donning a sheer white tunic tucked into J.Crew printed shorts with a J.Crew tortoise chain necklace and watch, Tory Burch flats, Ray-Ban Wayfarers and a Scoop shopping bag (that she used as an actual bag,) this Fashionista was weekend ready. There is no excuse to let your self go on the weekends. Even if you want to stay comfortable in a T-shirt and shorts, it is really quite easy to remain casual but chic at the same time. Believe me, there is nothing wrong with wanting to wear a T-shirt. I’m a big fan of an oversized tee paired with a chunky necklace — very effortless. Even by slipping on a pair of flats instead of flip flops, you’ve already upped the ante.

CollegeFashionista: What is your weekend go-to outfit?
Maddy Bersin: You’re looking at it! I really like to have classic staples that I can kind of pair with more fun pieces to shake things up a little bit. I have the basic white blouse paired with flats and the fun shorts and the yellow bag. So my go-to outfit in a sentence would be taking my classics and pairing something fun and colorful with them.
CF: What are your top five essential items in your bag?
MB: Kiehl’s lip balm, my Ray-Ban wayfarers, my coin purse, tic-tacs and a fun headband to put in my hair if it gets frizzy.
CF: What is your summer must-have?
MB: My summer must-have would be rompers because they’re fun. You can dress them up or down, and wear them kind of with anything.
How To: Pair a solid lightweight top with patterned shorts. Add a fun bag (or a versatile shopping bag, like this Fashionista,) chic flats and keep the accessories minimal. I always find it’s too hot to “excessorize” in the summertime – save your statement pieces for cooler days.
