Leather, leather and more leather! Another one of my obsessions this season is the wonderful dark and mysterious leather trend, which could also be known as the “Year of the Dragon” trend. Deep shadow tones, decadent fabrics, and of course, leather all have been skyrocketing ever since the start of fall.
After previous seasons of blinding neon hues and busy prints, the fashion world turned over a new leaf by adding a taste of goth to fashionista/o’s closets (especially mine). Tough black leather has appeared on the runway with Proenza Schouler, Givenchy, Versace and more. As soon as I spotted this fashionista and fashionisto taking a stroll down Walnut St. in Philadelphia, I was instantly captivated by their punk-rock look. Both fashionista/os are rocking the leather jacket, which is one of my favorite staples for when the weather starts getting a little chilly. It’s the perfect piece for dressing down the evening look or topping off your ensemble on your way to class.
Now, I know leather and the edgy gothic look can be hard to embrace all at once. Especially the fact that the leather pant is probably one of the hottest trends as of late. So, to ease the beginners into this trend I suggest starting somewhere a little more familiar and easy. For example, the leather jacket. If you’ve been a part of the leather jacket trend for quite some time I suggest trying possibly a slightly leathered dress like this one from Tobi.
In order to achieve the fashionista/o’s look, try these black ombre skinny jeans from NASTY GAL. Throw on your favorite band t-shirt with this quilted moto jacket also from NASTY GAL. For a more student friendly budget check out this great find from Forever 21. In no time you will have a cohesive trendy and edgy look that fufills the meaning of the “Year of the Dragon” trend.
So, fellow fashionistas/os top off the fall 2012/winter 2013 season following the “Year of the Dragon” trend with a leather jacket, pant, or even dress!
Spotted: Gucci covered the autumn/winter 2012-13 runways with black leather one look after the other.
