As Fashionistas on a college budget, we all know that finding those great pieces for your wardrobe can be tough sometimes. At SCAD, there is one common solution—vintage. There are countless thrift stores, consignment stores and even antique stores all over the city. All it takes is a little patience and creativity and you can find some really great accessories at a fairly inexpensive price. Make your closet and your wallet happy—the perfect combo!
I spotted this CollegeFashionista leaving class and her vest popped out at me immediately. By pairing the vest with a navy blue button-down, acid wash denim and combat boots, she created a perfect fall ensemble. Before I knew it, we started chatting about our mutual love for vintage. Repurposing old pieces is such a great way to build on your wardrobe. Whether you wear it the way it was worn originally, or even cut it up and put it through the sewing machine, it’s always fun to make something old into something new.
Aside from the numerous brick and mortar vintage shops out there, there are a growing number of shops online as well. ModCloth is a great option and one of my favorite shopping spots! Not only do their products have retro inspiration, but also there is a complete section on the site dedicated to true vintage. Check out this vest from ModCloth. The colors are perfect for fall, and the silhouette has a very '70s bohemian chic feel. This faux fur vest from LuLu’s is another great option. Fur vests are crowding the racks everywhere we go lately. Not only will this vest keep you warm, but it is without a doubt right on trend.
Spotted: The alice + olivia fall 2012 presentation featured bold, luxurious colors, textures and prints that all combined to showcase a clear vintage inspiration.
