ACCESSORIES REPORT: To Infinity and Beyond

Uncategorized

I am a firm believer that given the right accessory, an outfit can be transformed from something dull to something deviously divine. One of my go-to accessories is in fact scarves. I have an extensive collection comprised of about 20 pieces. Scarves are a great investment and are a practical item especially during those cold, winter months. When it’s a little breezy out, I like to pair a knitted scarf with a nice skirt and knee-high boots. This Fashionista is a perfect representation of that as she rocks an outfit well suited for spring.

This year I have been incredibly attracted to infinity scarves. They create a nice layering affect while, at the same time, keeping you bundled up. This Fashionista certainly got the idea, wearing a mustard infinity scarf that can be worn throughout the autumn, winter and spring months. Paired with a chestnut corduroy skirt, brown boots, black tights and a cardigan, this Fashionista disproves the long held myth that you can’t wear brown with black — she makes this color combo look great!

As the end of the season approaches, you are sure to find some amazing knitted scarves for sale. Some scarves can even be worn into the summer. Thinner and sometimes shear ones, like this one from American Eagle Outfitters comes in a lighter cotton material and can help to bring some color or texture to a look. For the spring, the material can be a little heavier. This classic loop scarf from LOFT emits a refined image that is great for spring. Cable knit scarves work best for winter and fall. Check out this one from Sears; it reminds me of the collection spotted below. There’s a scarf for every season and the infinity scarf works well for each.

Spotted: One of my favorite collections this fall 2012 season came from A.F. Vandervorst. This collection featured knitted scarves in such an exceptional way. I was very impressed by this collection and the allusions the garments created. In some looks it appears as if the models are facing away from the camera — an interesting image. Words cannot express how much I adore this collection; it’s certainly a must-see. Here’s one of my favorite looks from this collection.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: To Infinity and Beyond

Accessories Report

In Toronto, the real chills of winter sweep through the city during the first few months of each year. While it can be admittedly difficult to remain fashionable during this period of cold, there are a number of accessories that one can use to spruce up their wardrobe.

The infinity scarf (or circle scarf) is one of my favourite ways to layer up in style and warmth for a cool February afternoon. Not only is it snug and comfy, but the infinity scarf manages to fill in that awkward little gap between one’s neck and jacket perfectly.

This week’s Fashionista adds a touch of quirk to her clean cut look with a striped infinity scarf. There are literally an infinite number of ways to wrap this scarf and she has chosen to loop it around and around to form a lovely mass of jersey stripes that frame her face. The blue stripes of her scarf complement her blue frames which provide contrast against a beige cocoon-shaped coat. Mahogany riding boots round off the look in its clever cohesion of simple separates.

The infinity scarf is pretty much a staple in stores everywhere and American Apparel offers a large assortment of colourful options that will brighten up any outfit during those dreary days of winter. With spring approaching, retailers like Urban Outfitters also offer lightweight interpretations in pretty abstract patterns that are just right for a breezy summer afternoon.

The beauty of the infinity scarf lies in its form and function. Although most people wear it as a simple scarf, you can also wrap it around your head to keep the ears warm (a.k.a the snood), or even drape it over the shoulders to form a scarf-cardigan. Whichever way you choose to wear it, you’ll be infinitely stylish for sure.

Spotted: The infinity scarf was a key accessory of the Missoni show as it was shown in a wide variety of colours with innovative styling.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: To Infinity and Beyond

After arriving back from Thanksgiving break, Tallahassee was finally greeted with cold weather. With the temperatures dropping below 60, the season of swim suits and shorts has been put on hold. The great thing about this is seeing Fashionistas/os bundled up in tons of layers. One of my favorite trends, the tube scarf, has been very popular for the fall. They are so easy and versatile, plus they keep the neck extra cozy, which is why I was so excited to see this Fashionista wearing one.

What made the scarf stand out so distinctly was the mustard yellow contrasting against the turquoise coat. The chunky cable knit tube scarf looked as though it was hand knitted by a loving grandma. I was informed the scarf was a sale item purchased from Charlotte Russe last Christmas. If you are looking for a custom scarf knitted with love, there are several online shops that specialize in personalized scarf making. I love that this Fashionista paired together two primary colors to create a visually captivating look. The bell shape of the coat resembles one of Azzedine Alia’s fall 2011 runway looks, where it tapers at the waste and then flares out ever so slightly. The jacket’s versatile collar can actually button up to create a turtle neck or can be laid down flat for an open neckline.

Tube scarves are an easy accessory to add excitement to any outfit. They not only keep your neck warm, but also add a bit of color to your outfit. For fairly moderate prices, you can stock up on different colored tube scarf to match with any ensemble.

Spotted: Rag & Bone styled different colored infinity scarves with several of their fall 2011 runway looks to make for a more interesting ensemble.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: To Infinity and Beyond

Accessories Report

There’s something rather daunting about the concept of infinity. Whether it is in a purely philosophical discussion about time or presented to you as a part of a integral in Calculus, infinity is something that has perpetually been outside of my conceptual grasp. Thankfully, this fall has created the opportunity for a tangible and fashionable manifestation of this concept that most Fashionistas/os are finding it difficult to ignore: the infinity scarf.

This Fashionisto’s approach to style can be described as both casual and chic. Opting for cooler hues, his outfit consists of a variety of blue pieces that differ in both shade and style. By choosing a light blue button-up as a layer over his “Legalize Gay” statement tee, this Fashionisto is choosing to make not only a political declaration but a stylistic one as well. His status as a man with taste, however, is solidified with the inclusion of a few smaller pieces. With some bracelets on his wrist and a gorgeous brown leather belt around his waist, it becomes obvious that detail is a very important aspect of this Fashionisto’s stylistic proficiency. In fact, this attention to detail is further highlighted by the inclusion of two black pieces that serve to punctuate his blue ensemble: his shoes and finally his infinity scarf.

Wrapped casually around his neck, the infinity scarf serves as both a practical and trendy accessory. Available in many hues, textures, lengths and thicknesses this scarf would feel at home in any and all of the wardrobes of the fashion savvy. This Fashionisto’s choice of a black cotton infinity scarf suits his style and therefore does not overpower the general feeling of his ensemble but instead confirms his fashion-forward nature. Due to its versatility, appearance and practicality it is clear that this is a trend that will go to infinity and beyond.

Spotted: Infinity scarves were present on the Custo Barcelona fall 2011 runway.
