We’re on the eve of spring here in New England, Fashionistas/os, and that means another tricky transition period for fashion. The last couple of weeks have been quite a weather whirlwind. Everything from low 40s to high 70s have swept through UCONN and every day has demanded a very different type of dress if a Fashionista/o wants to be comfortable. However, one accessory that I have always found to be a true outfit saver during the time when winter turns to spring is the long sweater.
Too warm for jackets yet still too cold to go without an outerwear piece, the long sweater solves the problem of what to wear to make sure you are neither overheated or positively freezing when walking around campus. This Fashionista rocks an incredibly adorable look with her long cashmere cardigan, buttoned casually over her pretty patterned dress. She complements the look with cute but simple accessories: black tights, brown knee-high boots, and gold hoop earrings.
The long sweater allows for experimentation with other parts of your outfit. It's easy to wear a more spring-appropriate dress with a long cardigan because the two balance each other out. As far as adding more accessories goes, long sweaters hardly limit the possibilities. That is why this particular piece is such a perfect option for the awkward transition phases of the seasons.
Take the long sweater and make it a part of your own wardrobe this week, Fashionistas/os. There are so many different choices to work with. There is always the classic boyfriend cardigan, like this one from Motel. There is also the chunky cable-knit boyfriend cardigan, like this option from See by Chloé. Or, if you are looking for something with a bit more personal flair, try out this tribal-themed sweater from Sandro.
Fashionistos, you always have tons of options to choose from when it comes to long sweaters in your wardrobe. There is always the basic, solid-colored cardigan like this one from Revolve Clothing. However, my personal favorite is the “professor” cardigan with the sexy elbow patches, like this one from Topman.
Spotted: Holly Fulton's fall 2012 ready-to-wear show has a lot of very interesting lighter outerwear pieces to draw inspiration from. Everything from cute cropped jacket tops to long blazers are present in her line, and her outfits are definitely worth looking through!
