When I caught this Fashionista right outside the campus library, I knew I had also caught the classic New England winter look. Not only was she wearing the muted New England colors of green, black and brown, she was also sporting a knit scarf, a canvas messenger bag and duck boots. With the bright and clean white snow in the background (yes, it has finally snowed at the UConn campus!), this Fashionista truly looks like she just walked off the set of an L.L.Bean photoshoot.
This Fashionista’s accessories are all definitive pieces that are staples in any New Englander’s wardrobe. First, her army green rain jacket is perfect for the snow. Second, her faded green canvas cross-body messenger bag with brown detail is perfect; again, the color speaks the New Englander’s language. Third, her thick, fluffy knitted scarf is a warm and comfortable option for the biting winds. And last but certainly not least, her L.L.Bean duck boots are made to keep snow and slush from seeping through her socks and freezing her feet.
It is easy to see why all of theses items are New England winter staples. They are all practical and season-appropriate, and this Fashionista manages to be both comfortable and stylish in her look.
Be a classic New Englander with your look this week, Fashionistas/os! Who knows how much longer the winter weather is going to last up here. Take advantage of the fashion opportunities it gives you now. Duck boots, although the L.L Bean ones are the classics, are offered by many other companies and in many other designs. If you’re looking for a pair that’s a little fun, check out these ones from Ralph Lauren. Also, don’t be afraid to spruce up your outfit with some color either. This Fashionista chose a gorgeous bright yellow scarf to wrap around her neck to add some edge to her New England look. Have fun and make it your own!
