ACCESSORIES REPORT: Subtle Studs

Accessories Report

It's my favorite time of the year. Time to trade in the tired fads of the summer for some serious fall fashion! Now don't get me wrong, this summer vacation was my best one yet, but I cannot bear to put on another pair of high-waisted shorts. I've also never been a fan of the girly-girl look, so I wouldn't mind if sun dresses went away forever. While some summer looks are fun to try out, by the time August rolls around I am usually so over the simplicity of summer clothes that I'm trained like a Pavlov dog every time my closet door opens. But instead of salivating, I usually sigh really dramatically and frown at all my boring tank tops.

And that is why fall is the best season ever. It's refreshing because people get back in the swings of things come September. The pace picks up, and the outfits get sharper and more tailored as everyone heads back to school, club meetings and internships. As the weather gets cooler, all the girls on campus are dressed to impress and it motivates me to put on some cool fall clothes.

This Fashionista impresses me with one of the best fall trends for both boys and girls — studs. The fitted black and stud combo is such a refreshing look after the flowery and flowy duo that dominates summer style. Studs are the perfect example of the androgynous style I prefer, having been seen looking good on both male and female style icons.

With just the right amount of accessories, this Rutgers student toughens up her outfit without looking intimidating. She keeps her clothes laid back by wearing a white chiffon shirt and black pants which allows her killer Jeffrey Campbell loafers to define her outfit. And while it becomes a little more subtle as you move up from her shoes, she completes the look with a thin studded belt and cone-stud earrings.

Although it's easy to add studs to absolutely anything, I think it's important not to go overboard with this trend so you don't get tired of it. As for recreating this Fashionista's look, you can find similar pieces easily. The Steve Madden website has it's own category for studded shoes labeled Gilded Girl. And if black isn't your color, skinny belts can be found in hues a bit brighter.

Cheers to the return of fall!

ACCESSORIES REPORT: Subtle Studs

What do rockstars and Fashionista/os have in common? They both look killer in spikes and studded accessories. This trend has been on the radar for years, but this season the edgy trend has taken on a much more glamorous role. Whether you’ve on the cutting edge of fashion or just want to spice up your own look, spikes and studs will fit perfectly in your wardrobe.

This Fashionista’s eclectic accessories made her stand out from the crowd. She wore a neutral outfit; a black lace tube top, heather grey cotton pencil skirt and a pair of brown braided leather sandals. She added pops of color with her circle earrings, vintage flamingo necklace, stacked studded gold rings and a bright manicure. This Fashionista’s fun summer look is casual enough for day, yet chic enough for a night out on the town.

Spikes and studs were once a taboo embellishment reserved for rockers, but now they’ve gone stylish. You can go the more subtle route with this trend like this week’s Fashionista did and opt for a few stacked studded rings. This set of rings from Urban Outfitters will help you channel your inner rocker.  This gold spiked bag from Nasty Gal also let you try out this hot trend without going overboard. For the edgier Fashionistas out there, try this spiked necklace from Forever 21 or or these spiked black heels from Sam Edelman.

Spotted: Valentino featured plenty of rock and roll approved accessories during their Spring 2012 collection, including this luxe black studded tote.
