Is the warm weather officially here to stay yet? Seems like the weather can’t figure out consistency and I’d personally like it to stay on the spring side. We all know spring means that summer is coming; April showers bring May flowers. When daydreaming of summer we think of cute swimsuits, sunblock and of course a cool pair of sunglasses. So throw out those old frames because I’m telling you what new specs to move in.
While wayfarer sunglasses have been the past trend, this summer try a new shape: the cat eye. By all means, it’s not as dramatic as it sounds. You can find a cool pair of cat eye sunglasses without looking like an aged Hollywood actress. Check out this Fashionista, who I caught strutting in style. Her glasses are round on the bottom, but have a cat eye shape at the top. So cool! Not only is the shape nice but how about that pattern? She wears them well by mixing the pattern with her floral bottoms and throwing in a very trendy piece, the jean button-up. Notice how her glasses are a bit large, but they don’t look ridiculous. They’re a good fit for the shape of her face.
When it comes to sunglasses, finding a good pair is almost like a science. You have to find a pair that complements the shape of your face and a color that goes along with your skin tone. First, find the shape of your face. There are seven basic shapes: round, oval, oblong, triangle, inverted triangle, diamond and square. Once you determine your face shape, pick a frame that contrasts with the shape. So for example, if you have a round face, select angular, narrow frames that are wide so they lengthen the face.
When it comes to inspiration, check out some very cool celebs in their retro Prada specs, such as Katy Perry, Eva Mendes, Rihanna, Zoe Saldana and Gwen Stefani. Prada has made an impression on sunglasses with their whimsical frames and large size. Watch Prada’s spring 2011 show to check out these cool glasses live on the runway. While Prada is on the opposite side of a budgeting college Fashionista, if you’re bold enough to rock them you can find a replica pair at GirlProps.com along with a variety of choices of cat eye sunglasses at a great price. Other places you can search for cool sunglasses are Forever 21, ASOS and definitely don’t forget your favorite vintage shop. You’re sure to find a well-crafted, classy frame. Also, when choosing your sunglasses, don’t forget to try a cool pattern or a bright color. Have fun sun blocking!
