They started out blue, basic and traditional. Later they were resin washed, bleached, cut, frayed and sprinkled with acid. Today they are bright, bold and can be found in every color of the rainbow. In fact, I am sure you can find a pair rainbow-color dyed. That’s right, you guessed it — colored denim. A major spring must-have, colored denim has made its way on the runway, on the streets and most importantly on Fashionistas and Fashionistos all over.
With distressed denim out the door, tailored colored jeans are here to stay. I spotted this Fashionista taking her puppy for a stroll on the main quad. I love how she layered a darker button-up shirt over her lighter bottoms. Mint is always been one of my favorite colors when I want to add a subtle, fresh accent to an outfit. This Fashionista’s mint green rings tie every element of color together: the way they contrast, like her bottoms, to her dark top also adds more intrigue. But this Fashionista’s jewelry takes second place to the winner of the show, her mint green bottoms.
This Fashionista is an expert at color matching and she executes color blocking effortlessly. Colored denim is the perfect way to add some vibrancy to a more neutral color palette. If your wardrobe consists mostly of black, white, gray or taupe clothing — mix it up! Snag a pair of colored denim to spice up any plain outfit. My personal favorite is a gray top with bright red bottoms. With summer time coming close, try a pair of colored shorts to add a little extra personality to any ensemble.
