Comparing and contrasting accessories to reach that perfect look we all strive for can be one of the most fun but also one of the most frustrating aspects of getting ready in the morning. I know that I have had those days where I struggle with mixing and matching patterns, shapes and colors of scarves, footwear, jewelry and other accessories without getting anywhere. In hard times like these, where no combination of items seems to satisfy, it is always a great idea to have a foolproof backup plan for pairing together your accessories. In my opinion, the Fashionista I spotted this week demonstrates a great go-to accessories plan. If you feel like you're drowning in your own outfit additions, contrast with lights and darks.
Before jumping right into the accessories portion of a look, it is important to make sure that you at least have some idea of what you want the base of your outfit to be. This Fashionista starts off her ensemble with an incredibly cute skirt and top combination. She pairs a beige silk top with a pleated polka-dot skirt. Next, after the base of the outfit is put together, start thinking about what accessories you want to add on to the look. This Fashionista chooses four for herself: a scarf, a coat, tights and boots. Then, using the matching tactic that this Fashionista uses, decide which pieces you want to be light and which ones you want to be dark. This Fashionista chooses to go darker on the bottom half of her body with a pair of opaque black tights and sexy black lace-up boots. She then adds an army green coat and light purple scarf for a lighter upper half. Overall, she ends up with a beautifully fashionable and meticulously put together outfit that shine on the street with its cohesive contrasts.
Do some color contrasting in your own outfits this week, Fashionistas/os! It's simple, it's easy, and it can churn out some pretty gorgeous looks.
