This week’s Fashionista is noteworthy for a number of reasons including her use of color (or lack thereof), the simplicity of her accessories and the timeless nature of her outfit.
Most people tend to shy away from wearing black during the summer months; however, if you are what my style icon Lady Gaga describes as a “perpetual mourner” then there is no way to give up the classic color even for one season. The key to transitioning your black wardrobe into the warm months is to make sure that you are wearing summer appropriate styles such as skirts, shorts or dresses to prevent overheating and still appear seasonably appropriate. This Fashionista does just that by pairing this textured, black Gap skirt with a black and white striped tank from H&M and covering her shoulders with a black sweater from Zara.
This Fashionista does an excellent job of carrying only the bare necessities but managing to do so elegantly. The only jewelry she is wearing besides a simple band on her middle finger is her gold Michael Kors watch, which is at once understated but impactful since it is the only deviation from her otherwise dark color palette. Carrying a simple ivory clutch, similar to this Mulberry pouch, and with her iPhone covered in a patterned J.Crew case, she represents the best of minimalism. Furthermore, the pop of color from her nail color found at any American Apparel gives her a polished and feminine look to balance the intensity of her black ensemble.
Lastly, the cumulative effect of all of the pieces of this Fashionista’s outfit is reminiscent of the shapes and patterns of the 1960s. From the ballet flats to focus on black clothing and simultaneous ladylike and relaxed style, combined with her cool shades from Urban Outfitters, her style is something like that of a modern day Audrey Hepburn.
