ACCESSORIES REPORT: Back(pack) To School

Accessories Report

This fall semester, there’s a trendier way to haul your textbooks around campus. No more tacky tote bags or backpacks that are worn and torn; it's time to invest in something a little more geek chic.

The era of bright patterned backpacks has come to an end and backpacks that are considerably more fashion forward are beginning to evolve. To achieve a more causally modern look for your bag, stick with options that are made from canvas materials. Canvas bags are a huge trend this season and come in a variety of different colors, decorative designs and subtle patterns. Another popular trend is shades of neon. It first started to appear in trimmings on clutches and handbags and has now become the design of choice for canvas backpacks. Neon has also been used for a lot of garments and accessories this past season, making the neon backpack a perfect accessory not only for school, but for everyday outings as well.

This Fashionista is sporting a yellow dyed canvas backpack with a brown trim and decorative buckles. She’s paired it with vibrant royal blue pants and a yellow knitted sweater. To pull it all together, she dared to be different by adding a chunky pair of knitted socks underneath her flats. Another great feature from this Fashionista’s look is her silver accessories. Silver rings, such as these, are great pieces to add to any kind of outfit because they match with practically any color. For her outfit, they give off a vintage feel when mixed with the yellow of her sweater.

So next time you’re out buying school supplies, go ahead and add a new backpack to your shopping list. Chances are, your current one has been carried over from high school, as is mine, so you were practically in dire need of a new one anyways!

Spotted: Our favorite '90s idols are all grown up now and they’re designing a line of their own. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have included backpacks made from different fabrics and materials in their resort 2012 collection for The Row.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: Backpack To School

Accessories Report

Trekking from class to class may not be the most glamorous of tasks, especially in this blazing Texas heat. It may seem nearly impossible to be both a college student and fashionista at times like these. And on top of the heat we must lug around expensive textbooks, binders, laptops and who knows what else. But the Fashionista above didn't let anything stop her from strutting her stuff around campus.

When I was a little kid, I remember getting way too excited to buy back to school gear. Now that I'm out of adolesence, at least let's hope so, I feel like the excitement towards carrying around supplies has dwindled. This lack in motivation to go to school can easily be cured by shopping around for the right accessory to pack all your things in, and what better accessory than a backpack? Not only are all of your forsaken supplies out of the way and behind you, but your hands are free from pulling at irritating straps or holding a swinging bag back.

If the accesibility of a backpack isn't enough to encourage you from making your one shoulder suffer from totes and slingovers, the cute factor should. We aren't limited to the generic rolling backpacks from third grade anymore. As this Fashionista showed us with her patterned pack complementing colors in her outfit, you can make school less boring and way more fun with the pack you carry around with you day to day.

Give this Fashionista some credit and work a floral Vera Bradley backpack, too! The best part is that there are so many patterns to choose from! But don't feel obligated to get girly with your accessories. They should be an extension of yourself and your own style. Thankfully, LeSportsac offers a variety of sizes as well as other patterns to customize with, other than florals. If you want to stay simple and stay away from patterns, strap a sporty Northface or a rock and roll pack from Urban Outfitters. Now the real question is, are you going to one strap or two strap?
