Mixing and matching different styles, as opposed to sticking to one distinct look, is perfectly fashionable and highly recommended. Try mixing a little punk with a little chic, or maybe mixing more androgynous pieces with a few feminine accents. Getting creative like this can (and will) make an outfit more interesting!
This Fashionista went for a blend linking preppy and casual, and pulled it off completely. Basic staple pieces like leggings, a V-neck and an oversized cardigan keep this look comfortable for class, while the skirt, scarf and oxfords give her garb a preppy touch. Who would have thought that a khaki skirt could be stylish again? Forget your kindergarten teacher from 1997. This is the perfect way to go from classic to modern and it’s ideal for a CollegeFashionista on the go! For a more traditional look, try this Ralph Lauren twill skirt. Add some shiny gold accessories, a colorful top and a rockin’ pair of heels and you’re business casual—2012 edition. For a more modern and youthful look, this Club Monaco chiffon skirt is just right! Between the box pleats and color blocking, it becomes a flawless twist on a timeless style. All it needs is a good pair of legs and perhaps some Warby Parker frames.
Another standard staple perfect for the khaki skirt: a braided belt. They aren’t just for businessmen. And if you go for a bright color palette it’ll stand out even more! This orange J.Crew rope belt is my favorite! This Fashionista went with a scarf for her pop of color and I whole-heartedly approve. “Tangerine Tango” isn’t gone yet!
Last, but surely not least, let’s talk bags! This Fashionista’s Fossil tote was the first thing I noticed when I spotted her on the street. Fossil is known for their handbags and I absolutely love this one. It fits effortlessly with her traditional and timeless ensemble. On my holiday wish list this season is this metallic Fossil satchel. It has a subtle vintage feel and a modest bit of shine. What more could a girl ask for? I also love this leather bag from Shoptiques. It’s versatile, not too flashy and will never go out of style!
