ACCESSORIES REPORT: Wild About You

Accessories Report

It absolutely astounds me that we have merely a few weeks left before we’re out of school for summer here at University of the Pacific. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was first stepping foot onto Pacific’s stunning campus, amazed by the dignified beauty of the architecture and excited to both meet new people and enroll in stimulating new classes. Despite the rain we had as recently as last week, that same sense of summertime wonder has quietly returned, charging the warm air with a sense of curiosity and adventure. My mind has already begun to subconsciously react to this shift, albeit in the worst ways possible: while daydreaming and procrastination have always been my weaknesses, they have become my most common occupations. As you can imagine, this is not really conducive to my studying for finals. But although I fully realize my shortcomings, I just can’t banish the images of iced lemonade, lazy road trips and carefree summer fashion from my mind.

This week’s Fashionista, on the other hand, clearly understands how to balance practicality with whimsicality. I first noticed this Fashionista because of her adorable striped ponte knit dress, which immediately reminded me of the carefree ponte dresses I saw at Madewell last summer. She paired this versatile striped dress with sensible suede penny loafers and a streamlined canvas and leather tote. Upon closer inspection, however, I suddenly realized her seemingly simple dress had a number of extra details, like contrast striped side panels, inverted pleats to add a touch of volume to the skirt and…pockets. Cue crazy fangirl scream here. I’ll admit it: pockets are a complete game changer in my book. Adding pockets to a dress transforms it from fun, frivolous raiment into a garment a thousand times more awesome and functional. But once I checked out her varied accessories, I realized there was a whole lot more to admire.

Her braided leather bracelet adds a sense of natural refinement to her set of accessories, and her silver and dichroic glass spiral ring looks like an artist’s dream, but it’s her matching elephant ring and earrings that really piqued my interest. The sweet silver pairing added a subtle yet unique finishing touch to her already stylish outfit.

The good news is you, too, can look as wildly chic as this Fashionista. First, pick out a striped ponte dress, like the Skies Are Blue Stripe Ponte Dress from Piperlime. Then, snag some similar snazzy shades from Illesteva. Next, choose a canvas and leather tote — there are quite a few options on Etsy. Adorn yourself with an assortment of jewelry, and don’t forget to add an elephant-themed set! Finally, step into the perfect pair of suede penny loafers, like this Sperry Top-Sider pair via Nordstrom.

With this unforgettable ensemble, you’ll be sure to receive a trunk-ful of compliments.
