Accessories Report

Despite Lynn Yaeger’s declaration in the January issue of Vogue that the “single sole heel” (a.k.a. the stiletto) is the latest trend in footwear, the pre-fall presentations have shown us that wedges definitely aren’t going anywhere. Even though this probably isn’t something Yaeger, who described the shoes as “clunkers” that make you “galumph through life,” wants to hear, it’s good news for any CollegeFashionista who wants to add some height to her look without risking a broken ankle in the hike across campus.

This week’s Fashionista, a senior fashion design major, is dressed up for a presentation in which she unveiled the concept for her senior collection and displayed her portfolio. Her sheer button-up blouse, ankle pants and sleeveless blazer indicate that she is acutely trend-conscious, yet they allow her to maintain an air of total professionalism; these two traits are essential characteristics for anyone who wants to work in fashion design. This Fashionista breaks up these dark pieces with a pair of light gray wedges detailed with teardrop-shaped cutouts. Because they’re a soft color and feature a very delicate design, the shoes properly ground this Fashionista’s look but don’t weigh it down. Instead, this Fashionista towers over the crowd, standing out amongst her fellow fashion students both literally (the shoes) and figuratively thanks to her stunning design work.

Spotted: The wedge was especially prevalent on the spring runways, with Badgley Mischka, Donna Karan and Narciso Rodriguez all utilizing the wearable style.
