I’d like to think that Syracuse, as a whole, is a pretty eclectic yet loving bunch of friends. We’re all going different ways in life and no two of us dress the same, yet we’re all part of this overarching Orange family. There’s preppy, bohemian and down right business casual – a little bit of something for everyone. However, one of the more prominent accessories and campus essentials in the snowiest city only comes out for about three months of the whole school year. They’re comfy and go with every style in your everyday college town with colors to cater to any fashion sense. I’m talking about Sperry Top-Siders.
Mainstream culture has become something that we try to stray away from and show our originality, yet sometimes the trends are so… perfect. Like the snap bracelets and choker necklaces of our past, Sperry’s are the thing to have right now – and our Fashionista knows how to rock them. Her Forever 21 patriotic flannel, L.L.Bean quilted vest and Forever 21 pants create the perfect backdrop to a casual weekday. Combining preppy boat shoes with a relaxed state of mind gives her look an effortless, edgy feel. From the metal-rimmed aviators to her minimalist friendship bracelets, this Fashionista can play it cool.
With these classic accessories, we’re bringing back spring and that college vibe our parents experienced. Those days of chivalry and youth movements can be ours to experience too! Fashion can spark controversy and change the world, so it all starts with students like you and I. Maybe mainstream isn’t so bad, after all.
Spotted: Get that New England culture from none other than Karen Walker. Her line’s spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection is chock-full of classic silhouettes, reimagined prints and a swanky complexion that’s hard to pass up!
