This semester, since I am writing ACCESSORIES REPORT, I thought it only fair that I play around more with accessories within my own outfits, and let me tell you, it has been quite a learning experience thus far. Accessories, though usually small in size, have the power to define your entire outfit all on their own. For instance, if you’re wearing a plain, white button-up shirt with a pair of skinny jeans and choose to style them with floral ballet flats, a strand of pearls and a bow in your hair, your look will obviously read as a girly one. On the other hand, take that same button-up and pair of jeans but wear them with combat boots and an armful of spiked bracelets, your outfit suddenly takes an edgy turn that is, quite frankly, far from girly. It’s a foreign thought to many, but accessories truly have the ability to make your style.
With that being said, now that a sudden chill in the air has been slowly creeping in on the Kent State campus, it’s hard not to take notice of what is arguably one of the most powerful accessories of all time: the beanie. What started out as a way to keep our ears toasty in the dead of winter has quickly become one of the simplest yet most sought-after accessories for cool girls and guys everywhere. Placing one of these knit hats atop your head instantly changes the vibe of your entire ensemble and allows it to exude a sort of chic effortlessness. (Not to mention, it’s a quick fix for a bad hair day, and who doesn’t love that?)
I spotted this Fashionista walking around campus, and although there are many beanie-clad students parading about, I particularly loved how she styled hers. She kept her look completely neutral by pairing her beige beanie with a black leather jacket, black leggings and black ankle boots. Her look was already incredibly cool all on its own, but the knit beanie brought it up to the next level of casual chicness.
So, Fashionistas, it’s safe to say that in the question of “To beanie, or not to beanie?” the answer is always to go with the beanie. In fact, I’m eager to purchase a one of my very own and start experimenting with how it can change the mood of my own pieces of clothing. If you too are on the search for a way to a) keep your head warm in the chilly autumn air, and b) incorporate a bit of awesomeness to your wardrobe, go ahead and kill two birds with one stone by putting on a beanie as well; this simple accessory is a surefire way to let everyone know that you are definitely the coolest kid in school.
Spotted: Giles turned the beanie trend up a notch for fall/winter 2013 by having models strut down the runway with over-sized knit hats on their heads.
