Even though it feels like it just began, summer is slowly nearing its end. Tans are beginning to fade, school is beginning to start and we are all getting a little tired of having sand in our shoes. However, the change of season brings the opportunity for a fresh start. There’s no better way to embrace that fresh start than by sprucing up your wardrobe with some of falls most inspiring trends.
I spotted the Fashionista above as she completed her errands and couldn’t help but gawk over her fabulously vintage 1950s style head wrap. The Urban Outfitters headpiece she paired with an H&M striped dress and Topshop color-blocked satchel resembled the same adorable head wraps worn by pin up girls during World War II. At the time, pin up girls were considered extremely attractive and were the ultimate embodiment of the sexy girl-next-door look. It is no wonder why their go-to accessory is coming back in style.
Thankfully, there are many ways to make this trend more modern. Instead of wearing predictable high-waisted shorts and a tied crop top with these headbands, try to pair them with jeans or a dress. They are known for adding sophistication to a casual outfit, so pair one with a baggy sweatshirt and feminine skirt (the unlikely pairing of sweatshirts/baggy sweaters and skirts is a very big trend for this fall).
Even though this Fashionista stuck to a simple black and white color scheme, amp up your look by adding color. Head wraps are available almost everywhere in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Either way, they are a great addition to any wardrobe. In the upcoming weeks as your packing up your clothes for the trek back to campus and trying to squeeze every last item into bins, just remember not to forget to stuff a few headbands in there too!
Spotted: The blue and orange spotted turban/wrap that appeared in Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2013 ready-to-wear show proves that thicker is better.
