ACCESSORIES REPORT: The Thrill of Frill

Accessories Report

For our generation, thinking about the ’90s conjures up all kinds of nostalgia. From the music we listened to, to the toys we played with as children, we all take pride in the decade we grew up in. One thing that I’ve noticed our generation takes pride in most from the ’90s is fashion. From the classic punk rock style to everything denim, we can’t help but take a little inspiration from the past.

This week’s Fashionista does just that—she gets inspiration from the past, incorporating it into her more modern style. She pairs a light denim mini skirt with a comfortable gray sweater. Although simple, this ensemble definitely brings back memories of ’90s fashion. However, what stood out most to me in this Fashionista’s ’90s inspired outfit was her combination of funky socks and shoes.

Once known as simply a necessary accessory, socks are now being worn as the staple pieces of outfits. From thigh-high socks to patterned ones, socks have officially escaped their stereotype of simplicity and can now create an insanely fashion-forward style with their addition to any outfit. This Fashionista chose to wear multi-colored frill socks for a sweet spring look. Their ruffle detail, as well as the contrasting colors, truly make them stand out.

She pairs these awesome socks with an even more awesome pair of shoes. Unlike your typical pair of sneakers, this Fashionista’s platform sneakers steal the show. Because of their high platform sole, this Fashionista opted for a classic black pair. This way, the color or pattern of the sneaker does not detract from the unique style that the shoe’s structure offers.

When looking toward the future, always look to the past. If you aren’t sure where to take your style next, try to look to the past to get some style inspiration!
