Every time I see an emerging trend hitting stride on the streets, I turn to the ruler of all rulers, fashion wise that is: Queen B or Miss Blair Waldorf. “Is Blair wearing this? Would she wear this? Would Blair even consider this colour to be appropriate?” are the questions that forge my mind. I should probably thank Mr. Eric Daman who helped create the fantasy of Blair, but I can’t help it. The Queen B rules my world. Ruthless to say, the trend of mittens or gloves is something I have been seeing lately on campus. Thankfully, Blair wore them countless times, too, on Gossip Girl.
This Fashionista was on the bandwagon for a comeback of the glove. I adored the red striking colour, while mentioning her new purchase in class. The thing about gloves or mittens is that they usually come in a basic monochrome palette: cream, gray or black. Check out street-style blogs or a few of the fall 2013 collections, and you’ll see that bright, vibrant coloured gloves are the next go-to item. The newly brightened hue for this particular accessory will liven up your hands. This Fashionista’s red fingerless gloves complemented her pink high-waist skirt, yet contrasted well with her navy tank.
The fashion TV star icon rarely wore a beanie or scarf, if you look back at Blair Waldorf’s wardrobe. If you have trouble pairing a winter accessory with your wardrobe, why not try a chic glove? Whether it may be long in length or fingerless, there are so many styles that will go with any outfit. If you want to follow this Fashionista’s fashion sense, wear a mitten, like this ASOS Pieces Bellis Mitten, with a basic skirt, tank-top and a pair of tights. Or if you prefer to be edgy, try this Karl Lagerfeld crystal-embellished leather glove. Pair it with a white T-shirt, leather vest, black flouncy skirt and a pair of boots. I think Queen B would approve!
Spotted: Fall 2013 collections brought back mittens and gloves onto the runway, creating a final luxe touch to autumn/winter outfits. Alexander Wang and Altuzarra had oversized furry boxing gloves while Oscar De La Renta and Kate Spade New York had coloured and patterned leather options. These are all trendy ways to keep your hands warm!
