Normally during this time of the year Fashionistas are breaking out floral prints and neon hues. However, this summer things are getting a little more classic. Black and white is one of this summers hottest color combos. Though the standard color pairing has been hot since nearly the birth of fashion, it is reinventing itself this summer. Proving that even an oldie can still be a better than ever goodie.
The monochromatic summer trend made its most prevalent debut at New York Fashion Week. Here designers showcased their bold black and white creations. Marc Jacobs heavily incorporated the trend into his fashion line. He focused on the boldness of the contrasting colors, as well as working the trend in to many different accessories. Hats, purses and sunglasses were all facets in his show. Black and white designer creations have mainly been bold and daring. These designer looks would not be a typical outfit choice just for a day out. Conversely, you don’t have to be limited to only going big and bold with this trend. After all it is just a color combination, so it is just as trendy to work the look in a subtler way.
Our Fashionista executed the trend in a perfect way for summer. Her outfit consisted of a black and white stripped button-up blouse tucked in to black shorts, perfect for the summer heat. She accessorized her look with a black felt hat and black wedge-heeled ankle booties. The trick with keeping this trend simple is break up the look. Her shirt has large stripes on it, which makes it more of a statement piece within the look. By pairing her shirt with only black colored accessories she makes her outfit look both polished and cohesive. Also, she avoids overwhelming her ensemble.
This look is not only easy to wear, but also easy to shop for. If you are a fan of our Fashionista’s hat H&M has one that is almost identical to it. There is also plenty of options for the more daring Fashionista. Nordstrom has a pair of black and white stripped wedge sandals that are perfect if you want to explore the bolder side of the trend. However, whether you want to go bold or basic, this look will surly keep you stylish all summer long.
