We all have that one “go-to” piece of clothing. It could be that pair of boots you throw on before you walk out the door, or that statement necklace that changes the entire look of your ensemble. For me, my staple piece has become my invaluable BCBG chambray jacket. This may sound a bit dramatic, but I can’t imagine my wardrobe without it. A closet without a chambray top is a closet I do not want to have.
The chambray top is easily comparable to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants jeans. It looks flattering on any body type and it has the ability to make one’s outfit look effortlessly chic. Chambray tops are such a versatile piece and the perfect alternative to a simple plain tee. It is a classic layering piece, and a great “go-to” item.
This week’s Fashionista agrees with me. She paired her denim with a bright orange dress, patterned navy tights, brown booties, and she topped it all off with a knit beanie cap. Chambray tops can be worn with virtually anything, even changing the Fashionista’s dress into a skirt. Pair the classic top with neon, animal print pants, maxi dresses, a gaudy statement necklace, sequin skirts or even with another of my favorite staple pieces: leather. Not only can you wear the top with practically anything, you can wear it in a variety of ways; buttoned, unbuttoned, tucked in or tied, like this Fashionista.
Spotted: Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu transformed denim into tailored pieces with a whiff of mid-century haute couture in her spring 2013 runway collection. Classic ’50s shapes strutted down the runway in sportswear separates.
