There’s always that one accessory that you could either do with or without on a certain outfit. Sometimes it’s a necklace and other times it can be a bracelet. For me, most of the time it’s a belt. I always know when my outfit doesn’t need a belt, but I never know when a belt would make my outfit better. Because of this minor problem, I have strayed away from belts for the better part of my fashionable life. Whenever I see a Fashionista wearing a belt well, I mimic the sound of a round of applause in my head. I’ve seen belts with maxi dresses, belts with jeans (which is hard to do well) and belts over cardigans, which is also hard to do well. I’ve seen the good and bad of all these belt-outfit combinations. But this past week, I saw one good belted outfit in particular. Actually, it was a great belted outfit.
I spotted this Fashionista strolling through campus with her waist cinched in by a belt, of course. It’s not a flashy belt or a sturdy leather belt. It’s simple and black. If this Fashionista chose any other strap to fasten around her waist, it would have completely ruined her outfit. Sometimes less is more. With a metallic skirt, which she made herself, you don’t need a fancy belt to complete the statement. In fact, the simplicity of her thin black belt does the perfect job of achieving a polished look. Our accessories are not always meant to steal the show. She toned down her footwear with a nude pair of flats and stayed in the neutral color scheme with a black bag as well. Although her belt is basic and black, it’s patent leather material allows it tie in her shiny skirt. A job well done.
