“Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what girls are made of.” Well apparently not, according to this Fashionista. By sticking with black and staying away from any colors within the typical girly-girl color palette, she established a look that says she’s different from the rest. Furthering this look, she wrapped on a black leather bracelet with silver spikes then slid on another silver spiked bracelet to complement the first. What took this look from good to great is how well the Fashionista balanced her accessories with the rest of her outfit. Overall, her look is very simple. The black T-shirt, light washed denim shorts, standard black sandals and unpainted fingernails give way to the statement pieces on her wrist. The spikes are just edgy enough to catch the eye of a nearby student, yet they aren’t obnoxious because they’re paired with an otherwise clean ensemble.
Though this Fashionista used spiked bracelets to add an edge to her look, you can achieve the same edginess and uniqueness in a number of different ways. Instead, make your statement with a bold necklace, detailed belt, unique clutch or even a fun pair of shoes. Look for accessories with studs, geometric shapes or dramatic colors—essentially anything that is out of the ordinary and appeals to you as a Fashionista. The key here is to confine your edginess to one element of your outfit. Having more than one statement piece will only create unwanted busyness and defeat the purpose of having a statement piece in the first place. My best advice would be to maintain harmony among all the elements of your outfit, and more importantly, to have fun creating your look!
