Sometimes it is very difficult to predict if an event is going to be more on the casual or dressy side. In the words of Oscar Wilde, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” That’s is very true, but what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t want to show up underdressed?
This week’s Fashionista is a shining example of how to upgrade an outfit from casual to cute. With an outfit consisting of high-rise Converse, red and blue polka-dot skinny jeans and a graphic T-shirt, her collar statement necklace adds a professional pop.
Although this Fashionista chose to wear her necklace with a T-shirt, a collared statement necklace also pairs well with a dress or sweater. I suggest wearing it with a crewneck because it will look more natural, like a real collar on a button-up blouse.
If you’re not digging the collared necklace, there are plenty of other statement necklace styles out there. My favorite type is the floral statement necklaces mainly because I tend to wear at least one floral patterned item in my outfit each and every day. There are also geometric, stone or pearl (throwback) statement necklaces.
Although collar statement necklaces are trickier to wear because trying to find the right neckline and outfit to go with it can present a challenge, these other styles of statement necklaces have little to no boundaries when it comes to blending into any ensemble. So go ahead and make whatever statement your heart desires.
Spotted: Jenny Packham’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection certainly made a statement with the bold necklaces.
