Now that the air is brisk and nippy, walking across campus to get to class is becoming a dreaded task. The idea of bundling up in multiple layers of warm, cozy sweats is always tempting when it’s barely thirty degrees out. Nevertheless, I’m here to tell all you readers to finish the semester strong and to not give into temptation- it’s now officially time to start wearing fun and festive pieces for the upcoming holidays. Instead of gigantic oversized hoodies and yoga pants, whip out things like Christmas sweaters, leggings and maybe even some red lipstick. Obviously, no outfit is complete without the right accessories and I’m in love this holiday season with anything that adds a hint of sparkle!
Nothing says it’s time to celebrate the holidays like accessories that shimmer. Gold, silver and sequins are must haves in any collection this time of year and now is the time to be as glitzy as we want. Though I’ve never been one to pile on the sparkles, I think pieces that subtly twinkle are able to go a long way on any outfit. These include items like headbands with rhinestones or beading, a couple of jeweled bangles or a pair of drop earrings.
My favorite Fashionista is seen incorporating this trend into her number one accessory, the scarf. Her scarf isn’t overly sparkly but it manages to take her cute outfit of ripped jeans, a cargo coat and combat boots to the next level. She complements this look by adding a beaded headband across her forehead, giving her a very bohemian and laidback vibe.
Personally, I’m always wearing a pair of flashy studs in my ears and some blinged out rings. I generally keep my accessories pretty simple when I’m going to class, but I do think that adding just a little bit of sparkle is an easy way to kick things up a notch and make even the simplest of outfits extra special. Furthermore, a must-have item for a night out on the town is an embellished clutch or cross-body bag. These pieces are a great investment because they’re both practical and fashionable, a necessity for any holiday party!
Though the holiday season is known for bringing over-the-top shimmer to dresses, blouses and accessories, keeping the sparkles simple and toned down is the key to looking sophisticated and put together. Nevertheless, I always like to keep in mind that it’s just as important to play around and have fun with my accessories. After all, that’s what they’re for, right?
