When I was growing up, I loved the Spice Girls. I remember all of the clothing trends those five amazing women inspired. Posh Spice’s glamour, Scary Spice’s midriff and Baby Spice’s mini skirts mold all the important 1990s fashion trends. But one Spice Girl’s style is coming back in a big way: Sporty Spice.
Sports inspired pieces for streetwear are popping up all over the place: ironic cheerleader outfits to baseball caps to the reinvention of sneakers. Sporty clothing is huge again. Sporty inspirations can be bold like throwing on a pair of brightly colored, platform cross trainers with an equally bright pair of drop-crotch sweat pants. Sporty inspirations can also be more neutral, subtly mixing smaller, sporty details into a polished street wear look.
One sporty accessory that has been everywhere lately are converse shoes. Weather they are sky-high platforms or a more classic pair, everyone has been rocking their Converse on campus. This Fashionista opts rock a pair of classic black on black Converse with above knee black socks and a sporty T-shirt. She pairs her sporty pieces with more classic pieces like a constructed black skirt and a black, sweatshirt material motto-jacket. Her style is right in the middle between all over bold sporty and very subtle sporty, hitting all the right notes for this trend.
If you wanted to try on a sports wear inspired look like this Fashionista, try working the spectrum between bold and subtle. If you have more of a classic look, try finding yourself a pair of neutral Converse and match it with another sporty accessory such as a backpack. If you feel like going bolder, than pick up a pair of platform sneakers and rock them with a cheerleader top and a sporty varsity jacket. Any way you go with this trend, you will be sure to win MFP: Most Fashionable Player.
Spotted: Y-3 was on top of the sporty tend for their 2013 fall line, in which they featured plenty of edgy sneakers as well as slick varsity jackets.
